Nora's Blue-Eyed Darling

Here, at the small French village of Berles, is Albert Barnes, an aircraft mechanic with the very newly formed RAF, killed in action near Arras on 16th July 1918.

His Irish wife Nora, back home at 1 Cyclist Street, Higher Ardwick, Manchester, chose a marvellous epitaph for him:

"In Loving Memory of My Blue Eyed Darling"

A very few words. which say so much, for all time.
